Since his failure to capture the gubernatorial seat of the county of
Garissa, Ali Bunow Korane has almost disappeared. The prominent and
controversial politician ran against the current county governor Nathif
Jama, but failed to quench the seat by a slight margin.
Immediately after Nathif’s declaration as winner of the gubernatorial
race by the IEBC, Mr. Korane fleed the country and went to
Johannesburg, South Africa. Garissa Reporter could not determine the
reason of his flight but can confirm that he stayed there for almost 3
weeks.
However, prior to the public announcement of the Cabinet Secretary
appointments by the President, Uhuru Kenyatta, Ali Bunow Korane returned
to Nairobi to seek or lobby political support so that he may get a
governmental position. Garissa Reporter has learnt that Ali Bunow Korane
was offered the position of State House Comptroller, but turned down
the offer. Many of his supporters are happy with him making such a
decision saying that the former DC of Garissa cannot be a ‘statehouse butler!‘
Is the political career of Ali Bunow Korane over? The verdict of the
petition against Governor Nathif Jama is yet to be announced by the High
Court. If the petition succeeds and a re-election for gubernatorial
seat is ordered, then it might be possible for Mr. Korane to come back
from oblivion and run again as governor. However, his attempts might be
futile or may not prove any more successful then the March 4th
elections. Garissa Reporter has learnt that yesterday, the elite tribal
elders of the Abduwaq community, which Korane comes from, had vowed to
endorse a new person from their tribe to run for the gubernatorial seat
in the event the petition against the IEBC succeeds
